Building One Health Economics together

Welcome to the One Health Economics Forum, an informal space dedicated to stimulating and showcasing contributions to the field of One Health Economics!

This forum aims to promote the development and application of One Health Economics and to build a scientific community around this promising field (let’s leave the debate on whether economics is a science for another day!).

Whether you are a researcher, decision-maker, or citizen (not necessarily an economist!) who finds the One Health approach relevant for tackling environmental and public health challenges, and if you have insights or questions on applying theoretical, empirical, or experimental economics to better understand and manage the interactions between human, animal, and environmental health, you are welcome to share them here for discussion and feedback!

Contributions such as provocative posts, short articles, or literature/media/book reports will be quickly moderated and published to foster debate and keep the discussion on One Health Economics active! We suggest three flexible categories for contributions:

  • Prehistory of OHE: Review past academic contributions in Health, Agriculture, or Environment that applied One Health Economics before the approach was formalized. Any serious attempt to link at least two of the three “healths” from an economic perspective qualifies as Prehistory of OHE.
  • OHE Now!: Share or review current projects or publications that involve the potential contribution of Economics to the One Health approach, such as new World Bank reports, current events, or recent academic publications.
  • The Future of OHE: Share your thoughts on how, where, when, and why economics should participate in the One Health approach. Discuss what evolutions the discipline should prepare for to adapt to an integrated health perspective, identify potential obstacles, or argue if you believe economics should stay out of One Health.

Please send you contributions to 1healthecon[at]gmail.com to keep the discussion going!
